There will be a photocall at 10am on Monday 18 August, 2008 where Cllr John Lemmon, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee will present an annual gym pass for Green Bank Leisure Centre to Lesley Oakley who will then have her first gym induction
Lesley Oakey from Church Gresley in South Derbyshire will find it even easier to Get Active.
In June Lesley signed up to the countywide Get Active fitness campaign, linking in locally to our successful Get Active in The Forest project. Through Get Active it’s easy and it’s fun to get fitter, through enjoyable activities such as walking, archery and tai-chi.
Lesley Oakey visited the Derbyshire Get Active Bus and signed up for text messages and e-mails to encourage her to get more active. The ‘Get Active’ Bus was run by Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT) as part of a pilot project which also saw the launch of a micro-site on the NHS website to encourage people to manage their own health more effectively.
Lesley was also lucky enough to win a prize draw which has given her an annual gym pass at her local leisure centre. She has chosen to go to Green Bank Leisure Centre in Swadlincote. Her prize has been donated jointly by SLM Leisure, the company which manages Green Bank Leisure Centre, and South Derbyshire District Council.
Says Cllr John Lemmon, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee, “In our Annual Report we showed how we helped more people to get healthy in 2007-2008 by having more than 40 led walks at locations such as Calke Abbey, Hilton and Rosliston as part of the Get Active in The Forest project. Our Annual Report can be found at www.south-derbyshire.gov.uk/annualreport
We are very pleased that in South Derbyshire we are helping lots of people get more active. I am sure that this annual gym pass at Green Bank Leisure Centre will help Lesley Oakey to be even healthier.”
