Industrial Action 16 & 17 July, 2008

News release 14 July 2008

Industrial action is planned by local authority members of Unison across Britain on Wednesday 16 July and Thursday 17 July, 2008. The action is in support of a pay offer which has been accepted by the GMB union.

As with other local authorities, South Derbyshire District Council cannot know at this stage how many union members will be taking part in the strike and how many people who are not members of a union will not be working on that day.

In South Derbyshire the Civic Offices will be closed. There will be a limited telephone service available at the Civic Offices. Negotiations with Unison have taken place to ensure that the CareLine telecare support system will provide an emergency service to people connected to the system.

On Thursday 17 July, 2008 there will be an election at Barrow on Trent for the Parish Council. If electors from Barrow on Trent need replacement postal votes if they have spoiled their ballot paper or if they need emergency proxy votes because of unforeseen circumstances which they would normally need to collect from the Civic Offices, they should contact the Deputy Returning Officer on 01283 595831.

Residents are asked to make alternative arrangements for cash payments either through the Post Office or on the internet at www.south-derbys.gov.uk

The refuse collection service is expected to continue to operate so household waste bins should be put out as normal.

Residents are asked to look at the Council's website www.south-derbys.gov.uk for any additional information.
