Safer South Derbyshire press release 23 May 2008
Details of activities that will be on offer to young people in South Derbyshire during the school summer holiday will be among the information available at the forthcoming Safer Neighbourhood meetings in the district.
Youth Services, the Youth Engagement Through Sport project, South Derbyshire District Council and South Derbyshire Schools Sport Partnership are all providing information for the meetings to help parents plan or pass on details about the fun, interesting ways young people can spend their free time.
Chris Smith, Safer Communities Manager with the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership, said: “We really hope that making the information available will encourage parents to come along. As well as getting these details they will be able to join in informal discussions about issues affecting their area and ways they might be addressed.
“The meetings are quite informal and we would love to see as many people as possible taking advantage of the chances that they offer. People can ask questions, find out what is going on and, if they like, have a say and get involved.”
Starting on June 2, the Safer Neighbourhood meetings will also include a brief overview of what the Safer South Derbyshire Partnership has identified as the key issues to be tackled in the District over the next three years and some of the ways it intends to do so.
One of them is anti-social behaviour and details on ways to report will be available.
Alongside the usual Partnership team and police representatives at the meetings other organisations such as the CVS and Victim Support plan to be at as many as possible to answer questions and provide information.
