There will be a photocall at Rosliston Forestry Centre on Friday 9 May at 11.30 am with Debbie Chesterman, Manager of the Centre and Amanda Drakeley, South Derbyshire’s Healthy Lifestyle Officer

"Download our ipod walk or bring your teddy bear – it’s up to you! But be sure to join us for the Walking Festival launch event," says Amanda Drakeley, South Derbyshire’s Healthy Lifestyle Officer.

The first ever Footsteps in the Forest - The National Forest Walking Festival is officially launched on Saturday 17 May 2008 from 10am until 12noon at Rosliston Forestry Centre, Burton Road, Rosliston. The launch event will start will an official ribbon cutting by a volunteer walk leader with the Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, Cllr Mick Bale. There will also be a mass of healthy lifestyle displays with local walking groups providing information so that people can join them.

Says Amanda, "There is a choice of three simple walks for people to take part in. At 10.15 am there's the Rosliston Forestry Centre's ipod walk – an downloadable virtual tour around the centre's key points of interest to make sure you really get the low down. Download the ipod tour before the walk from South Derbyshire District Council's website (www.south-derbys.gov.uk )

"At 11am is a walk for all the family with teddy bears also invited. This is a teddy bears’ story-telling walk, in which The Travelling Storyteller will entertain the adults, children and teddy bears with delightful stories which the teddies can become part of. Then at 11.45am is a guided walk around the site provided by the Forestry Commission lets you know everything you ever wanted to ask about nature at this fantastic forest site."

"If you still haven't got your brochure detailing all the walks on offer during the ten day festival they are rapidly running out - hard copies are available from Tourist Information Centres in Swadlincote, Ashby and Burton. The brochure is also available to download from www.thenationalforestwalkingfestival.org.uk "
