Fireworks

Fireworks are a traditional part of enjoying celebrations such as bonfire night or New Year but they are the cause of many hundreds of serious accidents every year.

It should be remembered that fireworks are dangerous explosives. The safest way to enjoy them is to go to a professionally organised event

Voluntary registration scheme

We operate a voluntary registration scheme for organisers of firework displays and bonfires in partnership with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue.

Each year we urge the public to look out for advertisements bearing the registration disc as an indication of a well-organised event.

Register your display
You must complete all sections of the online registration to prevent any delays in processing the registration and enable the discs to be issued in time for your advertising.

When we receive your completed registration, it will be checked and if it is a new application we may arrange a site visit. You may also be contacted if we would like more information about the event. If the event is being organised satisfactorily, then we will register it before issuing registration discs.

Professionally organised displays are regulated by the Health and Safety Executive, which provides advice for organisers.

Retailers selling fireworks must be registered with Derbyshire County Council Trading Standards who investigate problems with unsafe products.
