Over time, buildings can become dangerous from old age, deterioration or settlement or due to more dramatic causes such as a storm or fire.
If a building is considered immediately dangerous, our Building Control team will take any action necessary to protect the public and neighbouring properties, including immediate evacuation.
We will always try to contact the owner before taking emergency measures.
Where the building is not immediately dangerous, the owner will receive a formal Building Notice requiring the property to be made safe within a stated time.
If satisfactory action is not taken, an Enforcement Order may be issued.
If the order is not complied with, we can instruct all necessary works to make the building safe and charge the owner for all expenses.
