Active young people

There is a wide assortment of activities for children and young people across South Derbyshire run by ourselves and partner organisations.

We provide sports, play schemes and youth groups aimed at those aged five to 19.

Here’s a taste of what activities we have on offer:

School holidays

Our Play, Sports and Adventure Mobiles travel across the District to provide games galore and adrenaline activities at community venues. Young explorers can also try out navigational challenges in our parks.

Please note that all of these activities are open public sessions in open public spaces and run on a drop in and out basis, meaning young people are free to come and go as they please. The staff working at these sessions are there to supervise young people when they are using our equipment only. We therefore recommend that parents or guardians remain at sessions and supervise their children at all times.

All participants are required to complete a consent form. (pdf, 421kb)

Street Games

These sessions at Midway Community Centre, in Rowan Drive, offer young people a chill out area to chat with friends and listen to music. You can also play games such as football, table tennis, dodgeball and volleyball between 6pm and 7.30pm on Mondays during term time. All participants are required to complete a consent form. Youth groups

Local volunteers run Hilton Youth United, which offers table tennis, pool, video games, football and a tuck shop, from 6.30pm to 8pm every Thursday during term time. Each session, held at Hilton Village Hall in Peacroft Lane, costs 50p.

You can also hang out with mates, play sports and have fun at the Friday Night Project at Granville Sports College, in Burton Road, Woodville. Youth workers are on hand to talk about anything you want between 7pm and 9pm on Fridays during term time. Admission is 50p per session.

Further details can be found in our events and activities.

Children and young people can also enjoy our skate parks, take part in a junior parkrun, learn how to cycle safely through our Bikeability sessions or find out more about nature and the great outdoors as part of our Environmental Education Project.
