The National Forest

South Derbyshire is at the heart of The National Forest, where 200 square miles have been transformed by the planting of millions of trees and the creation of many other valuable habitats.

The Forest is truly unique and offers a fantastic environment with endless leisure, environmental and recreational opportunities.

The National Forest offers a host of events and activities, including walking, cyclinghorse ridingllama trekking and woodland crafts. Within its bounds you’ll find beautiful country parks, swathes of young and mature woodland, stunning wildflower meadows and sparkling lakes.

The Forest’s rolling countryside and picturesque villages are home to historic stately homes, pretty tea shops, bustling marinas, award-winning country pubs and fascinating museums. Many are linked by the new National Forest Way long distance walking trail.

Throughout the year, there is so much to see and do, ranging from arts festivals and classic car shows to food fairs and musical performances. More information can be found in our What's On guide.

Within just a few miles there are other major attractions for visitors, including Conkers, the Donington Collections, the National Brewery Centre, the National Memorial Arboretum and Twycross Zoo. Slightly further afield are the Alton Towers Resort and the Drayton Manor Theme Park
