Local land charges - personal search

A Personal Search is a search of the Local Land Charges Register (LLC) in accordance with the LLC Act 1975 and the LLC Rules 1977 (as amended).

From 18th August 2010, you can inspect the LLC Register free of charge, due to the statutory fee of £22.00 being revoked under Statutory Instrument 1812/2010.  Apart from the absence of a fee and some minor changes to the procedures for making a personal search, everything else remains unchanged at the present time.

Following Government’s recommendations to improve the search process, you can now order Local Authority Searches or specific CON29(R) questions through the ‘Easysearch’ Forms on our website.

Making an appointment

You can make appointments by contacting a member of Local Land Charges on (01283) 595851 between:

9.00am - 5.00pm (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday)
9.30am - 5.00pm (Wednesday)
9.00am - 4.30pm (Friday)

Appointment times to access the Land Charges Register Portal situated in the reception area are:

11.00am - 4.00pm (Monday to Thursday)

and 11.00am - 3.30pm (Friday)

Six personal searches can be carried out per day by a personal searcher - this to be reviewed at a later date

Personal Searchers should note that whilst there is a right to inspect the Register, there is no right to copy this information using, for example a camera, mobile phone, digital pen or USB memory stick. Extracting copies in such a manner is not allowed and would be a breach of copyright under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Information we need

Details of the person or company carrying out the Personal Search and the address of the search site should be e-mailed to land.charges@south-derbys.gov.uk when you book the appointment.  For identification purposes a plan may be required.  We will contact you if this is needed.

Information available 

  • Planning Register – portal situated in reception area
  • Building Control Register – portal situated in reception area (for copies of Planning and Building Control Regulation Decisions, contact the relevant Department for fee schedule)
  • Public Sewer Maps – portal situated in reception area

  • Highways Register - Requests for information relating to highways should be directed to the Local Highways Authority – Derbyshire County Council, County Hall, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AG (Tel: 01629) 580000, Ext. 38650

On arrival at the Civic Offices

Report to the main reception on the ground floor.  Inspect the Land Charges Register copy for the properties you want to search.
