Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 12 highlights the need for Local Development Frameworks to be founded on a robust and credible evidence base.
In creating a robust evidence base and making it easily accessible we will:
- promote greater understanding of spatial planning and its relationship with other community objectives
- create more spatially relevant policy to guide new development within the District
- improve our monitoring of the implementation of existing and future policy, and
- better achieve sustainable development within the District
The Annual Monitoring Report includes a significant amount of background evidence which we update every year. This report includes detailed housing and employment monitoring data and can be viewed below:
The Annual Monitoring Report
The evidence base we require for each development plan document will depend on the subject and complexity of each plan. For example, the Core Strategy will require a larger amount of evidence than less complex area specific plans. We are currently concentrated on gathering evidence for the Core Strategy. This includes:
- Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment
- Strategic Housing Market Assessment
- Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment
- South of Ashbourne Rural Accessibility Study
- Derby Housing Market Area Employment Land Study
- Swadlincote Retail and Leisure Study
- South Derbyshire Green Infrastructure Study
- South Derbyshire Environmental Audit
- Open Space, Sport and Recreation Study (PPG17 Assessment)
- Derbyshire Landscape Character Assessment
- Level 1 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
- Derby Housing Market Area Water Cycle Study
- Derby Housing Market Area Cleaner, Greener Energy Study
We are currently working with other parts of the Council to develop a joint approach to establish and maintain a robust and credible evidence base. This joint approach to data collection will be used to support the preparation and monitoring of the Local Development Framework (LDF) and the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS).
