In order to comply with the requirements of the European Union Directive and to ensure that all plans and policies are prepared in line with the principles of sustainable development, the Core Strategy must be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA). The objective of the SA is to assess the potential effects of the plans policies on the environmental, social and economic character of the area which the plan influences. The Scoping Report is the first stage of the Sustainability Appraisal process.
Please note: the Sustainability Appraisal Report is split into two sections:
Alongside the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report, the Council also consulted on an "Appropriate Assessment Screening and Scoping Report". This document seeks to identify whether the LDF Core Strategy could have an impact on sites of European nature conservation interest within, or in close proximity to South Derbyshire and any future work which may be required to ensure that the LDF Core Strategy will not harm such sites.
Following a five week scoping consultation in October/ December 2008 on the SA Scoping Report all responses received back have been considered and the Scoping Report has been amended to refelct comments accordingly. A complete list of any changes made to the reports are set out below.
The Council has yet to update its Appropriate Assessment Report, but this work will be completed shortly to reflect the findings of the Scoping and Outline Water Cycle Study received by the Council in January 2010.
