Countdown to flippin’ sweet event
A bumper entry of teams have signed up to take part in one of the most pan-tastic events in the South Derbyshire calendar.
More than 40 businesses, organisations and groups of friends are gearing up for the Swadlincote Pancake Races on Tuesday, February 13.
Newbies competing to take home the golden frying pan trophy include Eclipse Automotive Technology Ltd, Clipper Logistics, Integrex Ltd and Barclays Bank.
It is expected that enthusiastic crowds will descend on the town to see all the thrills and spills the newly designed course has to offer.
Cllr Michael Stanton, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, is one of those who will be embracing the chaos.
He said: “The pancake races are always a spectacle, with teams turning up in fancy dress getting swept up in the light-hearted nature of the day.
“We hope that people come in their droves to show their support and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic occasion.
“It will certainly be a lunch time you will never forget.”
The extravaganza starts with the school races at 11.30am, before mascots including Burton Albion’s Billy Brewer and Derby County’s Rammie go toe to toe from 11.45am. The adult races take place between 12.30pm and 2pm. All proceeds go to Sport Relief.
There will be a stall serving up delicious pancakes on the day, with a variety of toppings to choose from.
Visitors can also enjoy the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ roadshow, offering soup tasting, clay making, craft activities and health checks.
Keep up with all the action by following the Council’s Twitter page (@SDDC) or Facebook page and using the hashtag #Swadpancakeraces.
